Age: 30
Weight: 225 when conditions started (currently 205)
Height: 6' 3"
Marriage Status: Married 3+ years

When the prostatitis symptoms started I was performing the following activities: Weight Lifting (mostly lower body) 2-3x/wk, Full Court Basketball 2x/wk, Computer Programming/Gaming 7x/wk, Stretching 7x/wk.  I now no longer do any physical activities as instructed by my urologist.

04/18/2010 - Symptoms Started.  Reduced urine flow, frequent urinations (especially at night), occasional testicular pain, mild burning sensation if urine is yellow.  General groin soreness.

04/22/2010 - PCP - Urine test came back w/o infection.  PCP said it could be the protein and creatine supplements I was taking.  I stopped taking the supplements.

04/24/2010 - Urgent Care - Symptoms got worse (testicular shooting pain and decreased urinary flow).  Doctor did a urine test and no infection.  Prescribed Ciprofloxican and a Pain Killer.  Said I had Epididmytis and/or Mild Prostatitis.

04/25/2010 - ER - The following day I had numbness in my face and neck.  I was very weak in the legs and had weird heart beats.  ER ran MRI scans and they couldn't find anything.  So they told me to not take the pain medication the urgent care prescribed me.

04/26/2010 - PCP - Follow up visit.  They did a Prostate Cancer check - PSA levels came back normal.

04/26 - 04/30 - I was still having major issues outside of the general Prostatitis symptoms.  I felt I was having serious side effects to Ciprofloxican.  Side effects included: pounding heart, hot flashes, chills, headache, nausea, loss of appetite, dizziness, calf cramps, night sweats, anxiety, massive weakness in legs, heels very tender.  I got off the antibiotic and it took a good 3-5 days before those side effects wore off.  However the Prostatitis symptoms persisted.

05/04/2010 - PCP - Prescribed Doxycycline (2x daily for 10 days).  Referred me to a urologist.

05/06/2010 - Urologist - Chronic Prostatitis Diagnosed - He did a rectal exam of my prostate and concluded that the prostate felt fine and that he believed everything was fine, just continue the Doxycycline.

10-day Doxycycline was up.  My urine flow was a bit better, but not totally healed.  I had bad stomach aches and acid reflux.  Doxycycline can cause ulcers, so I may have got that and caused me issues for a week.

05/20/2010 - PCP - Symptoms back 100% - Prescribed Bactrim.  Took that for a couple of days, however experienced nauciousness and dizziness.  Did not take it for a couple of days as I wanted to go back to Doxycycline for less sever side effects.

05/24/2010 - Urologist - 2nd Round of Doxycycline Prescription (2x daily for 14 days).

05/31/2010 - ER - Went into the ER as I had left groin pains.  When I pushed down on the area, it felt as if there was internal parts that moved.  I also still had prostatitis symptoms.  It was a holiday so the ER was the only option.  An Inguinal Hernia was Diagnosed.

06/03/2010 - Surgeon -  I met with the surgeon and he confirmed that I have an Inguinal Hernia on the left side. - Surgery Needed & Scheduled

06/08/2010 - Surgeon - Inguinal Hernia Surgery Performed.

06/14/2010 - Friend - Friend of my father recommended I try an herbal remedy: Saw Palmetto as it helped his condition.  Started the herbal supplement.

06/15/2010 - Urologist - Prescribed Doxycycline 14 days again.

06/29/2010 - Update - I've been on Saw Palmetto and Doxycycline and also have been recovering from inguinal hernia repair at the same time.  I am finally able to sleep through an entire night without waking up, no burning sensations, full flow, yes!  Finally!  I am still having muscle and some testicular pain occasionally due to the inguinal hernia surgery, but I believe the prostatitus has subsided for now.

07/17/2010 - Update - Still no prostatitis!  Haven't had any testicular pain recently either.  Still some muscle pain and aches from the inguinal hernia surgery.  Starting to get better I think though.

*** I'll keep this post up-to-date as treatment and symptoms persist. ***

Still no prostatitis!  I'm still taking Saw Palmetto for prostate health.  I honestly don't know what cured it.  It could have been 3 different things (doxycycline, inguinal hernia surgery, or saw palmetto).  I was on antibiotics for about 50 days...

Haven't had any testicular pain recently either.  Still some muscle pain and aches from the inguinal hernia surgery.
